General Information

The 4th Asia-Pacific Conference on Plasma Science & Technology (APCPST) is an international symposium held biennially since 1992. The first meeting took place in Nanjing, China, the second in Daejeon, Korea in 1994 and the third in Tokyo, Japan in 1996. The APCPST has served as a scientific forum for discussing the physics of plasma processing and exchanging information among researchers in Asian-Pacific countries. The symposium will cover topics relating to plasma processing, including thermal and low pressure plasmas and will involve issues ranging from fundamental science to the applications of these discharges.

The Symposium on Plasma Science for Materials is an annual symposium held in Japan since 1988. The national meeting of the 11th SPSM will be held in conjunction with this year's APCPST. All participants can attend this symposium without additional fee.

The official language of the conference is english.

The Japenese Society for the Promotion of Science is the main sponsor.

Conference Venue and Accomodation

The conference will be held at the Holiday Inn, Coogee Beach. Coogee has a small seaside village atmosphere with a high street and lots of restaurants. It is located 7 km from Sydney's city centre and 6 km from Sydney Airport. There is a shuttle bus from the Sydney International Airport to the Hotel so you will have no trouble getting there. The hotel is 2 minutes walk from Coogee beach, which lies in a small bay of some 200 metres with headlands at each end. It is not uncommon for the temperature to be 20-24 deg C so swimming and surfing is often possible.

The cost of the hotel is about $A160 a night and participants wishing to arrive earlier or stay for a few more days can profit from this special rate. The rooms are huge with two large queen size beds so two can share. Please make your booking directly with the hotel as it is not possible for the conference committee to organize accomodation.

Contributed Papers

Participants are invited to submit contributed papers in the conference subject areas. These papers will be presented in oral or poster form. Contributors should prepare one page abstract (A4 paper, double spaced). The recommended length for the abstract is 200-300 words. The abstracts will be bound and distributed at the conference. Abstracts can be submitted using the supplied format (which uses LateX formatting) or by emailing an RTF file to the conference administrator. The LateX file and style requirements can be obtained from here.

All of the accepted papers will be published in conference proceedings. One free copy of the proceedings will be available to all participants at the registration desk.

The deadline for receipt of Abstracts is February 28, 1998

Participants may submit their papers to the journal "Thin Solid Films". Those who wish to do so should read the following instructions.

  1. Papers MUST be in complete and finalised form and in every respect be of the scientific standards usually accepted for international journals. Some advice on format is given below; authors should consult a recent copy of "Thin Solid Films" for further guidance.
  2. Only a paper which is actually presented during the symposium by one of its authors can be considered for the journal.
  3. Papers have to be submitted by 12 pm on the first day of the conference (27th July). An arrangement has been made with this journal as for the 10th SPSM in Japan, 1997.
  4. The Guest Editor (Prof. Yoshida, University of Tokyo) will distribute the papers to the referees AT the conference. All correspondance of a scientific nature should be addressed to the Guest Editor.
  5. The refereeing process will take until about September.
  6. The Editor will send the all the accepted papers to Prof. Joe Greene, Editor-in-Chief, Thin Solid Films.
  7. The special issue of Thin Solid Films will be published in May, 1999.
