Light Sources
Our XUV-VUV-UV-VIS-IR Sources and Power Supplies are universally
useful and fit McPherson Monochromators/Spectrometers and other
systems. They function as stand alone units, have low f/numbers,
and feature efficient reflective and refractive optics. Suitable
source accessories complement spectral regions and meet given
requirements as differential pumping for the XUV-VUV or N flushing
for IR.
We stand ready to use our experience to help with selecting or
designing suitable spectral illuminators and instruments for analytical
spectrometry.

- Model 642 - Soft x-ray
source, useful in the 1-100A region - A stable and reproducible
source of K-band lines. This source operates on the principle
of electron bombardment of an anode. Various anodes are available;
boron, carbon, magnesium, oxygen, aluminum and nitrogen, for example.
- Model 642-1 - Soft
x-ray source, same as above but with an in vacuo indexable turret
allowing use of six types of anodes. Also on this source are two
indexable four position filter holders.
- Model 634 - Penning
type continuous gas discharge source for use in the 50 - 1850
Angstrom range. This unit utilizes an intense magnetic field to
confine the electrons emitted by the selectable cathode. This
approach condenses the excitation of the source gas and the ionized
material sputtering from the cathode. Emission lines are produced
depending on the combination of discharge gas and cathode material.
- Model 628 - Capillary
discharge source, when operated with hydrogen, provides a continuum
from 850 Angstroms to the visible portion of the spectrum. Operated
with He, Ne, or Ar extremely monochromatic resonance lines are
available below 1500 Angstroms. Designed to operate with a continuous
gas flow, windowless. May require differential pumping and Model
730 power supply.
- Model 629 - Hollow cathode
lamp - windows for operation above the vacuum range are available
as accessories. For windowless operation the unit includes mounting
flange with actuator knob for moving a seal bushing to limit leak
to slit of spectrometers. May require differential pumping and
Model 730 power supply.
- Model 630 - Hinteregger
discharge lamp for production of noble gas spectra, provides line
spectra or continuum depending on gas, pressure and type of excitation
used, includes mounting flange; has same slit seal feature to
reduce leakage as Model 629. May require differential pumping
and Model 730 power supply.
- Model 631 - Hollow cathode
(calibrated) similar to the other discharge sources described
but available as a certified irradiance standard. This lamp is
manufactured in Germany and at request can be supplied as a calibrated
source per the BESSY facility in Berlin. Differential pumping
and ultra-stable power supply is required.
- Model 632 - Deuterium
source for vacuum ultra violet and ultraviolet, does not require
a flow of gas, vacuum pumps or coolant. Offers a continuum ranging
from 1150 - 3700 Angstroms. Includes power supply.
- Model 626 - Mercury pen ray
calibration lamp, with power supply, vacuum version.
- Model 625 - Mercury pen ray
calibration lamp, with power supply, atmospheric version Note:
Zn, Ca and other pen rays are also available.
- Model 619 - Tungsten calibrated lamp with calibrated power
supply, certified for spectral irradiance.
- Model 616-5 - Xenon (150W) or Xenon-Mercury (200W) short arc
source, consists of air cooled lamp unit and variable power supply.
Reference monochromator for F/No. matching. Available with quartz
lens or for use with the Model 617
first surface focusing system.
- Model 616-4 - Deuterium (30W), convection cooled lamp and
power supply. Reference monochromator for F/No. matching. Available
with quartz optics or for use with the Model 617
first surface focusing system.
- Model 621 - Lamp house and source
system is universal. Through the use of standard accessories and
socket adapters a variety of sources can be used safely and effectively
within this single housing design.
- Model 618 - Tungsten Halogen light
source is a high energy unit (f/2) with a 100 W lamp. This source
produces an intense continuum from 400 nm to 2 microns. With
its compact, forced air cooled housing, and UV grade lens focusing
assembly, it is the perfect unit for use in high intensity illumination
and spectrometry applications.
- Model 616-1 - Glowbar, silicon carbide element with line operated
variable power supply. Two versions available: stand alone with
germanium optics or for use with the Model 617 focusing system.
- Model 613 - Xenon (75W)
or Xenon Mercury (100W) arc source, lamp unit contains a first
surface condensing focusing mirror, requires Model 713 power supply.
- Model 610 - Tungsten Halogen (650W), consists of lamp unit,
line operated power supply and first surface condensing focusing
mirror, compact unit, ready to mount on McPherson or other standard
slit assemblies.
Power Supplies:
- Model 713 - D. C. power
supply for use with housing Model 613. Operates both Xenon and
Xenon Mercury for 75 and 100 watt arc sources. Self-starting,
highly stable and line operated from 110V/60Hz or 220V/50Hz sources.
- Model 718 - Power supply is a highly
regulated, adjustable DC power source for use in spectroscopy.
Capable of powering tungsten-halogen, ceramic element and infrared
emitter type light sources, this supply is flexible and extremely
stable.
- Model 750-03 - D. C. power supply for 150 watt Xenon and 200
watt Xenon Mercury short arc lamps, self-starting, highly stable,
line operated 110V/60Hz or 220V/50Hz.
- Model 750-04 - Universal D. C. power supply for use with Tungsten,
Tungsten Halogen or glowbar sources up to 100 watts. Highly stable
and line operated from 110V/60Hz or 220V/50Hz sources.
- Model 730 - Power supply
for use with rare gas discharge lamps as the Hollow Cathode Model
629 and the Hinteregger Model 630, 2000V, 0.5amp constant current.
Installed in a fan cooled bench top 19 inch cabinet, safety interlocked,
operates from 110V/60Hz or 220V/50Hz.
- Model 748 - Power supply (FLA-748), use with Zn, Ca, and Hg
calibration sources. A highly stable pen-ray lamp power supply.
Features simple on/off control and lamp select switch, operates
from 110V/60Hz or 220V/50Hz.
McPherson offers a variety of power supplies and light sources.
