While on holidays on the west coast of Tasmania, I accidentally drove past the Strahan aerodrome, a couple of kilometres from the village of Strahan. There is an Non-Directional Beacon (NDB) next to the aerodrome, which is used by aircraft to find their way to the landing strip. It transmits on 257 kHz using the callsign SRN. It is part of a network of NDBs which provide direction finding services all over Australia, maintained by the Australian ANSP, AirServices Australia.
Of course, being an LF/MF enthusiast, I stopped and took a few photos of the NDB antenna and ground system.
I wonder what the EIRP power is of this installation...
The internet tells me that this is a 100 W transmitter. It doesn't appear to take a lot of space!
The following two photos show some details of the antenna design. It seems to me that the vertical wire is connected to the middle horizontal conductor only. At the two ends, the three horizontal conductors seem to be connected together.
