Vacation scholarships in Physics are available each year during the period from December to February. Scholarships are primarily intended for undergraduate students from Australia and New Zealand who have completed their third year and intend to return to their home university to complete an honours degree in the following year. Students who have already completed their honours degree will also be considered, but should also apply for a postgraduate scholarship.
Scholars undertake a substantial piece of research work for a period of eight to ten weeks, which will result in a report, and possibly a subsequent publication. These short experiences of real research work are likely to be both interesting and useful to students who are seriously considering graduate work in physics. They offer a challenge and a stimulating research environment in which students have an opportunity to evaluate for themselves, and to demonstrate to others, their aptitude for research work. The University provides accommodation in a student hall of residence for the period of the scholarship, plus a weekly allowance. Return economy class airfares from Perth, Townsville, Tasmania, or New Zealand and rail fares from elsewhere are provided.
You are advised to first obtain full details of the Vacation Scholarships from The Registrar or the School Secretary of RSPhysSE, The Australian National University, Canberra ACT 0200. Application is by letter to The Registrar, The Australian National University, Canberra ACT 0200. Applications usually close in mid-August.
