Abstract
The different results provided by photoelectron spectroscopy (the ( gamma ,e) reaction) and electron momentum spectroscopy (the(e,2e) reaction) on the same target atom are analyzed in terms of the atomic ground state many-electron correlations. These correlations influence the photoelectron spectrum at any energy and cause relative line intensities to deviate from the standard spectroscopic factors being determined as the single-hole contribution to the particular ion state. On the other hand, atomic ground state correlations are insignificant for the electron momentum spectroscopy when the momentum transferred to the ion is small. It makes the spectroscopic factors measurable in the (e,2e) reactions. Using this approach the calculated ionization spectra of the 3s shell of argon and the 5s shell of xenon are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental data provided by both ( gamma ,e) and (e,2e).
