Abstract
Samples were prepared from single crystals of the hexagonal modification of silicon carbide (6H polytype known as alpha -SiC), whose room-temperature conductivity was sigma =1.6 Omega /sup -1/.cm/sup -1/. A sample of 0.8*2.5*10 mm dimensions was cut so that its length along the c/sub 6/ axis was 0.8 mm). The attenuation of piezoelectrically active (polarization along the c/sub 6/ axis) and inactive (polarization perpendicular to the c/sub 6/ axis) shear elastic waves in the basal plane have been determined. The velocity of sound was V/sub act/=7.2*10/sup 5/ cm/sec and V/sub inact/=8.0*10/sup 5/ cm/sec. (5 References).
