Atomic and Molecular Physics Group (ATMOP)

A Topical Group within the Australian Institute of Physics

What is a topical group?

It is an organization within the Australian Institute of Physics for members interested in a specific topic related to physics. It is formally created by an act of the AIP Council.

What does Atomic and Molecular Physics cover?

It includes theory, experiment, or technology in areas of atomic and molecular physics, such as:
    • Spectroscopy
    • Theory
    • Techniques (equipment and analysis)

Who can join, and does it cost anything?

Anyone in AIP can join, no extra charge.

What will ATMOP do?

For Australian physicists interested in ATMOP, it will build our sense of community, promote our interests and help co-ordinate our activities. For example:
    • It will look after the representation of our field in the biennial AIP Congress
    • It may organize its own meetings, and joint meetings or sessions with other topical groups or cognate societies of the AIP
    • It will maintain a web page and email lists to enable sharing of information about relevant activities in Australia.

Why should I join?

If you are interested in ATMOP, then you will be helping to promote your own interests. It is also a way to remain informed, and to inform others about relevant things in Australia or by Australians. For example: overseas visitors, positions vacant, employment wanted, research papers, conferences, etc.

How do I join?

Simply tick the appropriate box on your membership application or renewal form, available on the AIP website, or contact the ATMOP convenor (Steve Gibson) with your AIP membership details.
