Hi all, with the election date now set we'll be seeking support and volunteers during September to help with ANTaR's election activities. Stay tuned.

1) VOLUNTEERS NEEDED for ANTaR MAILOUT

We're currently producing a pre-election mailout to ANTaR members not on our email list. This is a huge task and volunteers are needed early next week to help collate, fold, label and sort the newsletters. This will be happening next Tuesday (8th) and Wednesday (9th), 7pm till late. Venue still to be decided and will be advised by email, or contact David (62538736) or Cate (62470164)


2) Half-day forum: "ARTISTS AND RECONCILIATION", Sat 5th Sept.

As part of its on going series of cultural discussions, the Arts Committee of the ACT Trades & Labour Council will be holding a special discussion this coming Saturday 5th September. The topic is " Artists and Reconcilliation" and it is open to all interested ANTaR members. ( You don't have to be an artist to attend. We would like as wide an audience as possible.) The guest panel will include : Jennifer Martinello (writer), Richard Williams (dancer) and Robyn Forester (Black Ink Arts & Culture Promotion)

4) NATIVE TITLE WORKSHOP, 14th Sept.

A Native Title workshop being organised by the Australian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES) at the Australian National University on Monday 14th September from 9.00am to 2.00pm (including lunch). The speaker lineup includes:

Dr Wendy Craik (National Farmers' Federation),
Dr Julie Finlayson (ANU Anthropology),
Dr David Godden (Sydney University Agricultural Economics) and,
Professor Jon Altman (ANU Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research).

6) ART AND SOUL FESTIVAL, 1-13th Sept.

[Although there are no Canberra-based events, a number of events in Sydney may be of interest...see below]

"Art and Soul" is "a festival celebrating the coexistence between indigenous and non-indigenous people and cultures in Aust". This will be held nationally 1-13 September and will include "an artwave across Aust with artists and art communtites holding their own events as part of the nation-wide cultural celebration". There will be an event in Sydney on 6 Sept at the Sydney Town Hall. The artistic director of Art and Soul is Rhoda Roberts, the contact person is Ilana Kaplin (02) 9555 6138.
