**************************** ANNOUNCING... ... the Queers for Reconciliation website http://reconciliation.queer.org.au Our group was formed in response to the need for a presence in the 1998 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade to express our communities support for the Reconciliation process and the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community. Queers for Reconciliation is an inclusive collaboration. We believe that a Reconciliation float at Mardi Gras can draw local and international attention to the struggle for Native Title. This year marks not just the 20th anniversary of the Mardi Gras parade but also ten years since the first organised Aboriginal presence in the parade. (A 'Black Gays' banner was on the 1980 Parade). A number of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organisations have already made statements this year supporting Reconciliation and organisations are involved in practical and ongoing support - we are not the only ones taking action. Our website contains
Using the new Altavista translation service, part of the site has been translated into French, German, Spanish and Italian to encourage gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people from around the world to learn about Australia's indigenous peoples during this year's Mardi Gras. The site aims to be a central point of contact for our communities for information and interactivity on these issues at http://reconciliation.queer.org.au The Queers for reconciliation email address is reconciliation@queer.org.au The group plans a large entry in the parade for which we are seeking funding and other in-kind support. Your support is vital. If you can financially support in any way this would be a great help. Please send donations to PO Box 121, Newtown NSW 2042 Australia, making any cheques to 'Queers for Reconciliation'.
