Dear ANTaR people, The media from the Sea of Hands/Launch and the DONT float on Wednesday has been absolutely fantastic, all contributing along with the people-power in the Senate gallery to putting that extra little bit of pressure on a dishevelled government! ==0==0==0==0==0== Senate debate information / Witnesses fir Wik: The 2nd reading speeches are now over in the Senate and the Committee stage will begin (ie, discussing the proposed amendments). Because of the backlog of Senate business and the government stuffing around on Wednesday with the Wik debates, the Senate has announced it will sit on Friday. The Committee stage of the Bill will begin tommorrow and Nick Minchin will be speaking at 9.30am. The NIWG and ANTaR would like to maintain an obvious presence during the remainder of the debates. To make this easier Babs Fairchild has offered to co-ordinate a constant roster of ANTaR supporters over the next few weeks while the WIK bill is being debated. If you are interested please email her at Barbara.Fairchild@anu.edu.au She will keep you informed about times for debate on a daily (Mon-Thurs) basis via email. She is particularly interested in hearing from people who can make the less popular 9:30am-5pm & 10pm-3am shifts. Please participate in *Witnesses for Wik!* by attending the debates whenever you have the chance. You can also ring the Whip's Office in the Senate to find out when debates are scheduled and to find out who is speaking. Ring Parliament House on 6277 7111 to get through. Dress code! Wear clothes in the Aboriginal colours of red, yellow and black, or in the Torres Strait Island colours of green, blue and white to show your support. ANTaR also has Aboriginal ribbons and 'Stick up for Wik' armbands available from the Community Aid Abroad Office in the Griffin Centre, Bunda St, Civic. ==0==0==0==0==0==0== National Day of Action / Rally December 13th, 12pm City Walk Campaign Against Racism is organising a rally for December 13th: No to Howard & Hanson's Racism!
