Information about the School

Accommodation

Accommodation for participants range from student dormitories (Ursula College) to hotel (University House) or self-contained units (Liversidge Court). Please note: The prices are current until 31 October 2000 and could change slightly after that.

Ursula College provides budget accommodation with up to 180 beds. For students, the daily rate for single rooms is $44 bed & breakfast or $55 full board. The weekly rates are $264 and $330, respectively. For others, the above rates are $55 and $66 per day, or $330 and $396 per week. The rooms have central heating, hot/cold water, tea/coffee making facilities, telephone - STD/IDD access. Recreation facilities include a fully equipped gymnasium, licensed bar/canteen, comfortable spacious common/TV room. The College is situated on the grounds of the Australian National University.

University House is in Balmain Crescent, on the A.N.U. Campus, within 2 km of the city centre. Prices per night range from $48.40 (single), $77.00 (twin share) for stays 7 days or more to $61.60 (single), $101.20 (twin share) for stays less than 7 days . All rooms contain a refrigerator, toaster and tea-making facilities and have an ISD/STD telephone. Double suites, West Wing apartments and flats are equipped with colour television. Children can only be accommodated by prior arrangement. General services and features include three bars, snack bar, newsagent, tobacconist. Toiletries and a selection of Australian wines are available. You will also find a tennis court, billiards room, record and book library, bicycle hire, self-serve and A La Carte Restaurant. Dry cleaning and laundry facilities are also available. After normal business hours, 07.00 a.m. and 10.00 p.m. daily, keys for new residents are available in envelopes outside the reception desk. Personal charges (meals, phones, etc) must be settled on departure. Check out time is 11.00 a.m., otherwise an extra half-day's charge will apply.

Liversidge Court is a complex of completely self-contained apartments, furnished to suit the most discerning guests, located on campus. Studio apartments cost $74.50 per night for stays less than 7 days or, $56.50 per night for 7 days or more. The corresponding prices for one bedroom apartments are $85 and $64 per night, and for two bedroom apartments, $102 and $77 per night, respectively. Charges for gas and electricity are included in the weekly rates. Appointments include colour TV, ISD/STD telephone, private laundry with washing machine and clothes dryer.

Cost of attendance

There is no registration fee for students. For non-students, the registration fee is $100, which covers the cost of the School proceedings and other incidentals (students get the proceedings free of charge).

Financial support

We are unable to provide any travel support but some financial assistance towards room & board will be available for students participating in the School. The exact amount will depend on the number of students seeking financial assistance and any support we can obtain from outside sources. In order to make best use of our limited resources, we ask students to seek support from their respective institutes, and apply for assistance only if their participation is contingent on it.
