Science at the Beach
We plan to present
some flavour of our scientific interests to the local community at
Kioloa, with an informal session on the Pacific beach.
Applied Maths, ANU,
has a long and proud tradition of shoreline investigations.
The session will
consist of short (ca. 5 minute) talks, using local props only (sand,
water, shells...) of general intelligibility.
Some
likely topics
- Sand packing density and Reynolds
conjecture
- Sea urchin shells and biominerals
- Water slip in confinement
- Sandpile stability
- ........?
Conference attendees are very welcome to contribute.
Please email
organisers with suggested titles and brief outline of
intent.
