statistical mechanics, astrophysics, molecular forces,
physical chemistry, solution theory, surfactant chemistry,
self-assembly, inorganic chemistry, polymers, new materials,
nanotechnologies, immunology, membrane biology, etc.
Pioneered modern theories of physical chemistry, especially
self assembly and molecular forces in solution. Science
citations are about 200-300 / year over 20 years (excluding
self citations). More than 40 former students/ PDFs hold
full Chairs in various Australian and Overseas Universities
in Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Food Technology, Chemical
Engineering, Optics, Chemistry; more than 100 PhD
students have completed PhDs in various fields under his
direction directly and indirectly. 6 former Department
members now Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science;2
are Fellows of the Royal Society; Department of Applied
Mathematics has produced more than 1500 papers in refereed
journals over 24 year period. Department members have been
awarded every possible honour of the Australian Academy of
Science. Holder of about 20 patents in new materials,
minerals extraction, membranes for reverse osmosis,
ultrafiltration, metal purification and separation,
non-corrosive coatings.
